Hosted (VoIP) vs Traditional Telephony

Hosted VoIP Office

At LCC, we've worked in over 2,000 sites in Central London providing us with expertise in Telephony, Internet & WiFi, Conferencing and
Meeting Room Solutions.

The main difference between Hosted and Traditional Telephone Systems is the way data is transferred. Rather than relying on a dedicated copper wire to relay phone conversations, Hosted Systems digitise voice data before sending it down the same cable used for broadband.

Is Hosted Telephony more reliable than Traditional Telephony?

By relocating phone calls online with a Hosted Telephone System, supremely reliable systems can be established, which are impervious to bad weather or broken phone lines. Faulty phone systems can result in poor customer service that may tarnish a company's reputation for years, so it's far better to adopt a system that won't fall over in a gale, or be severed by a misplaced road worker's drill.

How much Hardware is required for Hosted Telephony?

VoIP Phones can connect to the Internet with Ethernet cables or wirelessly through WiFi. Fewer cables means fewer sockets on the wall and fewer wires in crawlspaces. In essence, VoIP phones require no more hardware or infrastructure than smartphones. Moreover, compatibility between devices is assured, so staff who have been trained to use one phone should be able to operate them all.

How is Hosted Telephony managed?

Hosted Phone Systems are controlled through a web portal. Network and account managers can configure and modify these systems far more easily than with traditional hardwired infrastructure, while billing information and usage data is also instantly accessible. Software updates can be implemented automatically, so new features come on-stream immediately, and this in turn lessens the risk of Phone Systems becoming outdated.

Is a Hosted Telephony System more costly?

One of the biggest benefits of Hosted Phone Systems is their affordability, and these cost savings are largely due to a lack of physical infrastructure. Just as sending an email eliminates postage fees, so Hosted do away with trunking and exchanges, as well as expensive maintenance contracts.

What if my Company's circumstances change?

Hosted packages can be adjusted and relocated at will, requiring minimal infrastructure. There is no downtime during an office re-location since the devices are simply plug-and-play. This portability is beneficial for companies who rent, rather than own their offices. Few things are more likely to induce headaches than trying to cancel an active phone contract because a satellite office is unexpectedly closing.
